CLIFFORD, PA, JULY 22, 2006

American Classic Racing (ACR), a member owned organization, dedicated to the sport of vintage motocross and off-road racing, made their annual trek to the Hurricane Hills Sports Center, in Clifford, Pennsylvania on July 22nd. ACR conducts AMA sanctioned events in the North Eastern region of the United States and hosts the best vintage motocross series in the Northeast.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature brought rain to the area which made practice and the first set of moto’s a mud fest. Eventually the rain stopped and the sun came out. The Hurricane Hills track crew did their magic during intermission and track conditions improved tremendously.

Joe Fontana led the start of the combined gate of ACR GP 250 and ACR GP Open classes with former national number 63, Dave McLean, in pursuit. Joe Buckley, Robert Clare and Eric Zachrone completed the top five. Fontana and McLean were in a class all their own as they left the rest of the pack behind. McLean got close enough to attempt a pass on Fontana in the big sweeper by the start but couldn’t get by. Buckley and Clare were a solid third and fourth when John Plaza moved up to fifth. By lap three, Fontana was pulling away from McLean and had built an eight second advantage. On the following lap, Fontana increased his lead to 13-seconds. Fontana crossed the finish line for the win with a 17-second cushion. McLean, Buckley, Clare and Plaza rounded out the top five.

Fontana, Zackrone, McLean, Clare and Anthony Dimarzio led the charge out of the first turn in the final ACR GP 250 and ACR GP Open moto. Fontana held the point when McLean and Clare moved up to claim second and third, displacing Zackrone to fourth. Buckley moved up to fifth. Fontana had a four second lead at the start of lap two. Fontana went down in the corner following the new rhythm section just before the start of lap four. McLean inherited the lead and pulled away to a nine second lead before Fontana was able to remount. Meanwhile, Clare also had some misfortune and pulled off. Buckley, Zackrone and Plaza inherited third through fifth. Fontana went down again, in the exact same corner as the previous lap, and the mistake allowed McLean in increase his advantage to 30-seconds at the checkers. Fontana, Zackrone, Buckley and Plaza completed the top five.

Andy Mikolaichik, Ken Napolitano, Dan Pullen, Fontana and Zach Hamm led the start of the combined Evolution Open Novice/Intermediate/Expert moto. Mikolaichik quickly pulled away and started lap two with a three second lead. Napolitano remained in second but Fontana was now third after passing Pullen. Pullen was relegated to fourth. A few turns later, Pullen was relegated to fifth by Hamm. Mikolaichik’s lead was six seconds on lap three and 11-seconds by lap four. Mikolaichik took the checkers with a whopping 16-second advantage followed by Napolitano, Fontana, Hamm and Pullen.

Mikolaichik, Fontana, Napolitano, Pullen and Hamm led the start of the final Evolution Open Novice/Intermediate/Expert moto. Two turns before the start of lap two, Hamm passed Pullen taking fourth. Pullen was relegated to fifth. Mikolaichik had a seven second lead by the third lap and increased it to 10-seconds when he took the checkers for another win. Napolitano, Fontana, Hamm and Pullen rounded out the top five.
