AMA District 34 Championship Series

The massive AMA District 34 Championship Series is nearing completion. The Hurricane Hills Sports Center hosted another round on Labor Day, September 1^st. Mother Nature provided another beautiful summer day with blue skies, temperature’s in the low 80’s and a nice steady breeze. There is always a downside and that was that the track surface required copious amounts of H²O to keep dust to a minimum, which unfortunately, was difficult to do since the blazing sun and the breeze kept drying out the track surface faster than anticipated.   

Honda thumper pilot, Scott Fleece topped the podium of the Over 25 B/C class. Fleece finished second in the opening moto and won the final. Mark Biesecker, aboard another Honda thumper, took runner-up with a combined score of 1-3 and George Rohanczuk, riding a Suzuki, completed the podium with a 3-2 tally.

Rohanczuk, Biesecker and Patrick O’Connor led the pack out of the second turn in the opening Over 25 B/C moto. Biesecker took over the point position shortly after the start of lap two, relegating Rohanczuk to second. Fleece, O’Connor and Philip Argiras rounded out the top five. Rohanczuk and Biesecker were battling for the lead in the final corner of lap two when Rohanczuk stalled his thumper, handing the lead to Biesecker. Rohanczuk’s thumper relit quickly and he re-joined the race in second but allowed Biesecker to open an advantage of five seconds. The top five were all spread out by the start of lap four but near the half way point of the lap, Rohanczuk appeared to be experiencing mechanical problems and Fleece blew by taking second. Biesecker took the checkers nine seconds ahead of Fleece. Rohanczuk, James Doyle and Argiras closed out the top five.

Rohanczuk, Fleece, Biesecker, O’Connor and Doyle led the start of the final Over 25 B/C moto. Biesecker passed Fleece taking second just after the start of lap three and closed the gap on Rohanczuk to a bike length on the tree line section. Less than a quarter of a lap later, Fleece swept around Rohanczuk and Biesecker in the big sweeper by the start to secure the lead and pulled away to take the checkered flag with a six second lead. Rohanczuk, Biesecker, Chris Rodgers and O’Connor rounded out the top five.

Dakota Kessler, Charlie Fox, Ronnie Stewart, Chris Spear and Mike Klinger led the start of the opening Open A moto. Kessler started lap two with a three second lead that increased to five at the start of lap four. Stewart had closed the gap on Fox in second and pushed Fox wide in the corner preceding the downhill triple and the two bumped, sending Fox off his line, causing him to get out of shape when he landed and he went down hard. Stewart inherited second and Fox retired to the pits with a possible injury. Kessler got the win with a ten second lead followed by Stewart, Spear and Klinger.

Only Kessler, Spear and Stewart started the final Open A moto and Stewart pulled off shortly into the moto for unknown reasons, which left on Kessler and Spear to finish the moto. Kessler got a very easy win with a plus 30-second lead. Spear took second.
