Round 15: AMA District 34 Championship Series and District Six Points Race

Hurricane Hills hosted round 15 of the District 34 Championship Series on Sunday, June 1^st. Mother Nature provided excellent weather which in turn enabled the track crew to provide an excellently prepared racecourse.

Ty Space and Evan Ellefsen traded wins in the Open C division but it was Space who topped the podium after the two battled in both moto’s. Ellefsen led the start of the first moto and held off Space early in the moto but it was Space who handed the win to Ellefsen after he went down on lap four. Space quickly re-mounted and slowly reeled Ellefsen back in but ran out of time. Ellefsen, once again, led the start of the final moto with Space trailing in third. Space quickly moved to second but didn’t make the pass for the lead until lap four but then pulled away for the win and the overall.

Ellefsen, Jordan Davis, Ty Space, Lenny Hargrave and Samantha Fritz led the start of the opening Open C moto. Space was on the rear tire of Ellefsen by the end of lap one, relegating Davis to third. John Klinger and Fritz completed the top five. Ellefsen and Space battled for the lead. Space tried several pass attempts but couldn’t seal the deal. Klinger passed Davis in the sweeper by the start on lap three. Just after the start of lap four, Space dumped his Suzuki in the sweeper preceding the double elevator and the mistake cost him the win. Space remounted second and reeled Ellefsen back in but ran out of time. Ellefsen took the checkers three seconds ahead of Space. Klinger, Fritz and Mike Dorningues completed the top five.

Davis led the start of the final Open C moto with a big holeshot but the race was red flagged before the start of the second lap because some riders jumped the gate on the start. Ellefsen, Davis, Space, Francis Giambrone and Jeremy Yagloski led the re-start. Space had the runner up position before the start of lap two, and the battle for the lead was on again. Giambrone passed Davis taking third and Jeremy Thompson passed Yagloski taking fifth. The battle for the lead ensued until Space made the pass on Ellefsen exiting the rhythm section just prior to start of the last lap. Space pulled away and took the checkers seven seconds ahead of Ellefsen. Giambrone, Thompson and Fritz followed.

Space (2-1) topped the podium. Ellefsen (1-2) took second and Giambrone (6-3) third.

Zach Rice, Doug Miller, Gavin Westdyke, Gary Smith and Ryan Zaveral led the start of the opening Supermini moto. Zaveral quickly diced through the pack and took the lead in the first corner of lap two and was gone. Zaveral got an easy win. Miller, Rice, Smith and Westdyke rounded out the top five.

Rice, Miller, Smith, Nick Krautsack and Zaveral led the start of the final Supermini moto. Miller took the point just after the start of lap two and Zaveral had the point by the end of lap thee and sped away to another easy win. Miller, Rice, Smith and Krautsack closed out the top five.

Zaveral (1-1) took the overall. Miller (2-2) took second and Rice (3-3) third.
