The District 34 Sports Committee honored the top ten D34
Champions in all classes at the second annual District 34 Sports Committee
Tri-State Championship Series Awards Banquet at the Best Western Inn at Hunt’s
Landing in Matamoras, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, January 24th.
The District 34 Sports Committee is comprised of a group
of men and women with a tremendous amount of dedication and years of experience
in every aspect of the sport of motocross. This diverse group, who have been intimately involved in the
sport in a myriad of ways, saw the sports continuing growth and banded together
to form a new organization dedicated to the purpose of creating a new motocross
series that featured an extended calendar of events at some of the most unique
motocross racecourses on the east coast that would give riders and their
families significantly more choices and value for every hard earned dollar they
continually invest in the sport of motocross.
The participating tracks in the series are the
Broome-Tioga Sports Center in Binghamton, New York, the Hurricane Hills Sports
Center, in Clifford, Pennsylvania, Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, in
Englishtown, New Jersey and the Walden Playboys Motorcycle Club’s Walden
Motocross Track in Wallkill, New York.
This year’s series culminated with the 1st
annual District 34 Tri-State Race of Champions. The Tri-State Race of Champions
is a new event added to the end of the
schedule to determine the grand champions of the Tri-State area and was held at
the Walden Motocross Facility and featured a 2-day three-moto format. Qualifying
races were held throughout the season at various tracks and the top 13 riders
from the Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey State Motocross Championships
were automatically seeded into the Tri-State Race of Champions.
The banquet featured a cocktail hour with hors
d’oeuvres, cash bar and dinner and was led by Master of Ceremonies and
infamous track announcer, George Denke. After enjoying a fabulous dinner and
with the assistance of various members of the committee, Denke, began the awards
presentation. The top riders or each class was presented with their trophies for
their accomplishments. The top rider of each class received a-some-what
unconventional first place trophy, a very cool, Hot Hedz Designs custom-painted
helmet that featured the riders name, number and winning class designation. The
remaining nine riders of each division received a traditional trophy and all
received various gift certificates from series sponsors. High points awards were
also presented to the top riders at Hurricane Hills, Broome-Tioga, Walden and
Raceway Park.
Various motocross industry swag, in the guise of door
prizes, were awarded throughout the evening and included such items as goggles,
grips, chest protectors, neck braces and jersey’s to name a few of a very long
list. The biggest door prizes of the evening festivities were saved and awarded
as the evening was coming to a close, a 6’
x 12’ Wells Cargo enclosed trailer, a Kawasaki KLX 110 mini bike and an
extreme Motocross vacation package were awarded.
